Frequently Asked Questions
This should answer a lot of your questions. However, I am happy to answer any questions not covered here via email or phone.
That’s great. First, I would advise you to complete the form on my contact page here.
Once I have this information I will contact you, usually via phone and arrange a suitable time to visit your child at home for an initial session where we can meet each other. I will run a short informal, fun and friendly session with your child. I will ask them some questions, get to know them, and do some activities with them which will allow me to assess their current level and their tutoring needs.
From there I will make a recommendation about the number of sessions I believe will be required to bridge their skills gap. I will then leave you to decide in your own time if you, and your child, would like to proceed with a tutoring programme with myself.
Remember, the initial session is also an opportunity for your child to decide if they feel they would enjoy working with me.
If you do decide to proceed I will put together a bespoke tutoring plan together specific to your child to achieved the desired outcomes and we can arrange a regular day and time for me to come to your home to work with your child.
No. I only tutor children in person. From experience, children learn much better when working with them in person. It helps them to build trust and a relationship with myself.
Typically, I will come to your home to tutor your child. I find children are much more relaxed when they are in comfortable and familiar surroundings which improves their ability to learn.
A quiet room free from distractions with a suitable working surface, such as a desk, or kitchen or dining table is absolutely fine.
I am able to travel to the following areas, or locations close to these:

You do not need to sit with us during the tutoring session but you will need to remain at the property for the length of the tutoring session.
I work in a school full-time Monday to Friday so my tutoring sessions are typically Monday-Friday 4.30pm – 7.00pm and Saturday mornings 9.00am-12.00pm during term-time.
During the school holidays I can move session times to during the day (9am to 7.00pm).
It depends on their current level, learning ability and needs. At the first session I will assess your child’s requirements in the form of an activity. After this I will be able to make a recommendation about the number of sessions likely required. However, six sessions is typically sufficient time to make the necessary improvement. Once we are into a few weeks of these sessions I will know if the booked sessions will be enough or whether further sessions may be required.
The first session / assessment will be charged at £25 as it may not take the full hour.
Weekly tutoring sessions booked after the initial session will be charged at £35 per hour.
You can pay per session or pay for up to 6 sessions in advance after the initial assessment (£180). Paying for a 6 week block will result in a £30 saving over the course of the 6 weeks/sessions.
At present I only accept cash or bank transfer.
1 Hour. This is enough time in a 1-to-1 setting for us to achieve our objectives. Sessions longer than an hour are no more beneficial and can actually be detrimental as children of this age can only concentrate on intensive tasks for a short period of time. Most children book a 1 hour session per week for a period of 6-8 weeks.
Yes. I have a lot of experience of working with children with a wide range of SEN.
Yes. A large part of my career has been spent working with children who do not have English as their first language.
Yes, of course. I bring these, along with my ID, to the first tutoring session.
Yes. I work in education and schools full-time and am required to have a current enhanced DBS certificate. I will bring this to the first tutoring session.

You can call or email me using the details below. However, it is usually best to complete the form below as I can gather a lot of initial information, and as I still work in education full time I often cannot answer my phone during the day.
